ASG-led relief drive for Tonga begins Wednesday

A government initiated humanitarian relief drive for the people of Tonga gets underway tomorrow.

There are two parts to the effort. There’ll be a call center at the Fale at Suiga ula in Utulei to receive pledges and donations of money and supplies, from tomorrow to Saturday this week and also from next Wednesday to next Saturday.

For the second part, 14 drop off sites will be set up across the island where people can drop off their donations and supplies this Saturday and next Saturday.

The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Tuimavave Tauapa’i Laupola, Director of Human and Social Services, Muavaefaatasi John Suisala and Director of the Office for Disaster Assistance and Petroleum Management, Lisa Tuatoo were on the morning show to publicize the event.

ODAPM Director Ms Tuatoo said this is our way to reciprocate Tonga’s assistance for American Samoa after the 2009 tsunami, and also lend a hand to the kingdom after the devastation cause by the volcanic eruption and tsunami.

The fundraising drive for Tonga starts at 7:30 am tomorrow at the Fale at Suiga ula and phone numbers to call for pledges will be announced tomorrow.
