Hackers are suspected to have caused the closure of internet pages for the Samoa Meteorology Services over the weekend.

TV1Samoa reports staff at the Mulinuu Met offices were working to solve the issue with help from a Japanese IT expert working in Samoa.

The internet services were back online by late afternoon.

Meanwhile the office said it was still able to disseminate weather information to media outlets through other means for public information, especially when wet and windy conditions unsettled some residents.

The latest weather forecast says an active convergence zone lies just south of Samoa bringing associated rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds affecting the country.

Samoa Shipping Services suspended ferry trips between Upolu and Savaii yesterday abd this continued today due to rough seas.

The weather conditions are expected to remain over the next few days as the convergence zone lingers over the Samoa islands.
