The Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi government is still intent on conducting a full forensic audit of governments financial records.

Samoa Observer quotes Finance Minister Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o saying the audit was a vital part of the transition to the new government after 40 years of Human Rights Prptection Party governments.

“For any transition, you need to conduct this type of check just to make sure things are being kept at the standard required and in line with best practice,” Mulipola said.

She added that any recommendation from the audit will guide the government’s further actions.

A total of $250,000 tālā was appropriated in the 2021/2022 budget for the to engage an expert to undertake an audit of the governments finances.

According to Mulipola the FAST government has been advised by the Ministry of Finance that the current financial system is operating well.

“But the selected Government still wants to undertake the forensic exercise to be assured.”

A former HRPP Minister of Finance, Tapunuu Niko Lee Hang had queried the $250,000 allocation during the budget debate and even offered his services to conduct the audit.
