Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata have paid tribute to the United States Marine Corps.
Governor Lemanu said, “Today, the United States Marine Corps celebrates 246 years of warfighting excellence and dedicated service to our great Nation. We also highlight the contributions of our First Samoan Battalion, Marine Corps Reserve which serves as a defensive unit on Tutuila during World War 11. For decades, Samoan Marines have added to the Marine Corps illustrious history.
“As we celebrate the Corps’ distinguished history and tradition, we pay tribute to all that the Marine Corps birthday symbolizes.”
Lemanu extended best wishes to all US marines and their families. “On behalf on Lieutenant Governor Talauega and our families, we celebrate the service and sacrifice of every man and woman who has earned the title of “Marine.” We honor the legacy passed down through the generations and we thank the “Devil Dogs” for their enduring commitment to defend our nation with unwavering resolve.
“Happy 246th Birthday United States Marine Corps and “Semper Fidelis”!
Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata issued the following statement in honor of the USMC.
“The U.S. Marines have a distinguished history dating back to 1775, in the years leading to American independence. The second Continental Congress commissioned Captain Samuel Nicholas in Philadelphia to recruit two battalions of forces to serve on land and sea, leading directly to the first American amphibious raid under his command in early 1776. Since then, in every war and conflict, they have served with valor. Congratulations to all our Marines, past and present, including Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga. American Samoa is proud of every one who serves.
“Thank you for your service. Happy birthday to the Marines, may God bless you, and Semper Fi!”
The congresswoman is also honoring all of American Samoa’s Veterans for Veterans Day 2021.
“We are privileged in American Samoa to have many Veterans throughout our community and churches, and whether their leadership is formal or informal, they contribute wisdom and dependability in many ways,” she said. “I have the humbling opportunity to serve on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, where we are blessed to be more bipartisan and united in purpose than some other areas of Congress. The nation has a lasting commitment to our Veterans including health care, the availability of mental services for any such needs, along with recognition and true appreciation.”
