Palolo hunters who braved the third night of the first rising of the sea delicacy were not all rewarded but all were happy they participated in the annual celebration of the palolo rise.
Reports coming in this morning from Manu’a say that those who walked the reef got enough to fill small coolers and ice cream containers and those on boats and paopao were richly rewarded.
There was another big showing of palolo hunters at Alega Beach and the palolo did show but again it was not anything to write home about. “The seas were choppy,” said Tisa Faamuli.
She said the crowd shared koko alaisa and koko Samoa and it was a festive spirit even though the catch was bad.
Palolo was a no show at Fatumafuti and the airport.
In Samoa yesterday a fistful of palolo sold for $50 tala, an ice cream container at $1000 and a small bucket at $1500.
This was actually a drop from last year’s prices according to sellers who were interviewed by local media.
If you didn’t catch any palolo this time, there’s the November rise to look forward to.
