Last year, Tisa’s Tattoo Fest was about the only event that wasn’t cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

The annual festival, which promotes a living art form of Samoa, the tatau, went virtual reaching all corners of the FaceBook world.

The 2021 celebration takes place this Saturday and Sunday and will be a hybrid, a blend of live events at Alega Beach which will be streamed online.

The founder, Tisa Faamuli, says this year’s theme, “Tatau Retreat” is an opportunity to look at how the tatau community can give back “tautua” or service to the territory.

For Sunday Tisa’s plan is to have those with tatau or malu gather at Alega and discus forming an organization of the tatau commmunity.

It’s also a day for families to come out and enjoy Alega Beach and discover the marine life at the Alega Marina Sanctuary.

One of the benefits of preserving a clean and healthy reef is a palolo harvest. Alega is a popular hunting spot for palolo and the tattoo fest is timed to coincide with the October rising of the delicacy.
