Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has directed the Territorial Audit Office to carry out an audit of all American Samoa Government accounts, records, and books.

His directive is included in an October 8 memo in which he told directors to provide the TAO with their full support and cooperations for the audit.

Lemanu said the Territorial Auditor is mandated by law to conduct audits of all ASG departments and agencies.

“Lieutenant Governor Talauega and I remain firmly committed to full transparency in our government. We look forward to seeing everyone work collaboratively with the Acting Territorial Auditor and his staff to help us identify areas of improvement in our financial management.”

Ten months into the Lemanu/Talauega Administration, the Territorial Audit Office does not have a confirmed TA.

Tofa Sualauvi Su’a has been acting Territorial Auditor since January.

Meanwhile an administration bill to remove the requirement that the TA be a US certified public accountant (CPA) was approved by the House but rejected by the Senate.
