Second Regular Session of 37th Legislature adjourns

A joint closing of the Second Regular Session of the Fono did not take place as planned on Friday.

Each chamber had its own closing then a luncheon followed in the Fono guest house.

During the Senate closing Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean thanked senators for their diligent work for the 45 days of the session and showed his appreciation with envelopes for each senator.

He expressed the hope that before their term is over they will be able to witness the opening of the new Fono building.

He also referred to the veto of the teacher salary bill and said he and the House Speaker would discuss how to respond.

Sen Tuiagamoa Tavai was given the honor of responding to the Senate President’s speech and to thank him for his leadership.

In descriptive oratory Tuiagamoa said Tuaolo has been an outstanding leader who has chartered their journey through rough patches. Tuaolo has introduced new things, including celebrating birthdays of senators, said Tuiagamoa.

The Senate President presented a lafo or traditional gift of appreciation of $1000 to Tuiagamoa.

Unless the Governor calls a special session, lawmakers are finished for this year and won’t be back in session until January next year.
