Private sector employers are bracing for the next hike in the local minimum wage.
The increase is 40 cents per hour and goes into effect September 30.
The biggest group of employees, cannery workers, will have their wages increased from $5.56 per hour to $5.96 per hour.
The government’s hourly wage which was $5.21 was also to be hiked by 40 cents but as everyone knows the Lemanu Talauega administration hiked it to $7.25 effective July 1st.
The last hourly wage increase was in 2018.
All employers are required by US Dept of Labor to raise the hourly rate on the effective date.
