Parents with children that are eligible for the Advance Child Tax Credit under the American Rescue Plan Act, can mark September 29 on their calendars.
That’s when the first checks for the ACTC from ARPA will be released.
Deputy Treasurer Levi Reese said in an announcement yesterday a total of 6,700 taxpayers with qualifying children who filed their 2020 tax returns from January 1 to July 31, 2021 will be receiving their checks through the mail and direct deposits on that day.
Paper checks for those without mailing addresses will be disbursed at the Lee Auditorium from 8am to 4pm.
The amount to be disbursed Sept 29 is more than $13m.
American Samoa is receiving an estimated $33 million for the Advance Child Tax Credits.
Those eligible for the ACTC are 5 year olds and under and 6 to 17 year olds. The younger age group will receive 2 payments of $900 this month and next month while the older age group receive two payments of $750.
Treasury encourages taxpayers expecting to receive the Advance Child Tax Credit to make use of the Direct Deposit service.
This should lighten traffic in the banks, Post Office, the Executive Office Building and funds will be deposited directly in their bank accounts.
Direct Deposit Forms can be found online at www.americansamoa.gov/tax-office and at the Tax Office on the First Floor of the Executive Office Building in Utulei.
To complete processing of the Direct Deposit application, the taxpayer has to provide a bank statement that matches the taxpayer’s name on the tax return (both husband and wife if filed jointly) and all bank account numbers have to be visible because some bank statements only contain the final four digits.
Social distancing and masks will be strictly enforced during distribution of checks.
