
The first Sunday of September is commemorated each year by the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa and Samoa as “Aso Sā ole Tala Lelei” or “Gospel Sunday”.
It marks the arrival of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, August 24, 1830 on the shores of Sapapālii, Savaii.
This was the birth of Christianity in Samoa. Missionary John Williams, of the London Missionary Society, LMS, brought the Good News to Samoa on the boat, “Messenger of Peace”.
Sept. 5, 2021 marks 191-years, of the arrival of the church in Samoa.
The village of Leone, where John Williams & LMS missionaries arrived on Oct. 12, 1832 will commemorate 190-years next year, 2022.
Mrs SinasinaletotooIesu Solomona Tilo of the Leone CCCAS, says every district of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, of which there are 115 worldwide, as well as those of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, headquartered in Malua, Samoa, all celebrate Gospel Sunday, in large gatherings of praise & worship.
Some of those who were present Sunday at the Leone CCCAS service were the CCCAS Chairman Rev Elder Faaeteete Saifoloi of the Amaluia congregation; Rev. Lisi Thompson of Asili & Afao & Reverend Iese Fa’avaoga of Siona Leone.
