KHJ News has received inquiries from travelers who were booked on Hawaiian Air flights for September if there will be any commercial flights by the airline at all.
This after some travelers received flight cancellation notices from Hawaiian Airlines.
It has been confirmed that the first commercial flight by Hawaiian Airlines scheduled for September 13 will proceed.
A statement issued this morning by the Covid-19 Task Force states, “Commercial Hawaiian Air flights for the month of September have been scheduled for Monday, September 13th and Monday, September 27th ONLY.
“Travelers who booked on the Hawaiian Airlines website may have received cancellation emails for bookings made on the website’s default dates.
“The Task Force thanks the public for their continued patience as the Government works closely in coordination with Hawaiian Airlines throughout this transitional period.”
The last commercial flight by Hawaiian Airlines on the Honolulu Pago Pago route was March 26, 2020 before borders closed due to the Covid pandemic.
Last year Hawaiian operated Medicaid flights which arrived empty and took back medical referrals, students and returning US residents.
Since February 1st this year the airline has been operating repatriation flights as well as Medicaid flights.
The Task Force has explained that the resumption of Hawaiian Air flights on the Honolulu Pago Pago route are on a limited basis for now, instead of two flights per week pre pandemic.
