Mrs Ella Gurr who has been chair of the American Samoa Chamber of Commerce for two terms has resigned.

In her letter to the Chamber Board of Directors she said, “My commitments and focus for my family and health have become too great for me to be able to fulfill the requirements of my Chair position on the Board, and I feel it is best for me to make room for someone with the time and energy to devote to the job.”

During her tenure Mrs Gurr worked hard on increasing membership, pushed for Chamber input on government policy and expanding support services from the Chamber not inky for its members, but businesses in general.

In the aftermath of Cyclone Gita for example, she personally worked with farmers to obtain federal assistance.

“As the Chamber Chair, I have witnessed all the great milestones completed in just a short time period, and I have no doubt the board will continue these successes in the future,” Gurr wrote.

“It was always a priority to make sure that (1) the AS Chamber of Commerce was a strong advocate and voice for all businesses no matter the size and (2) being a resource hub for businesses to provide economic information and training to our Chamber members. During my tenure I’ve been fortunate to see the Chamber membership grow over 500% which is a true testament of the board members dedication and astounding leadership.”

Chamber Vice Chair Luisa Kuaea will step into the leadership position.

Gurr said, “I’m so grateful to welcome and support Mrs. Luisa Kuaea as the new Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and excited for the direction she will lead us.”

Gurr will remain on the Chamber Board.
