Three FAA grants for local airports

Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomed was officially notified of three grants through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for American Samoa’s airports from appropriations by Congress in COVID economic relief.

The three grants total $1,336,004. 
 
“I thank Port Director Chris King and the hardworking employees of the American Samoa Port Authority,” said Congresswoman Uifa’atali.

“These airports are the primary means we use to travel to the U.S. and the world, and federal funds are important to preserve and improve them. Congratulations to Governor Lemanu and his administration, and I look forward to continuing to work with them on funding and other federal issues.”
 
The breakdown of the three grants to American Samoa’s airports is as follows: $1,292,004 for Pago Pago International Airport, $22,000 for Ofu Airport, and $22,000 for Fitiuta Airport.
 
The congresswoman also thanked Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and FAA Director Steve Dickson for this recognition of the importance of air service in American Samoa.
