A man has been charged with assaulting his physically challenged step-daughter in March this year at Nu’uuli.

Samoa News reports Tolai Maua  is facing a charge of abuse of an elderly or disabled adult involving an act of domestic violence.

If found guilty he is likely to face a term of imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of up to $5,000, but not less than $150, or  both.

Bail was set at $10,000.

A woman contacted the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) regarding a female who came into her house requesting help after her father allegedly assaulted her.

Several police officers responded and observed a female individual who was later identified as the victim in this case.

The police officers described her as panicked, shaking and scared.

At the Tafuna Substation the victim said she hit her step brother who kept interrupting and teasing her.

That was when her step father came and assaulted her with a broom.

She said he had been drinking with carpenters who were fixing their kitchen.

The victim told police she ran from him but fell and hit her face on the ground and she started calling out for help.

Her neighbor heard her cries and rushed outside of her house to offer help.

When the defendant was finally apprehended at his house he admitted to assaulting his step daughter because she disobeyed him.
