The Sagaga 4 electoral constituency is heading to a by-election.

This follows the Supreme Court approval of an agreement between the two parties which includes the resignation by election winner Tuisa Tasi Patea of the Human Rights Protection Party.

Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi candidate Tagaloatele Poloa had petitioned against Tuisa with allegations of bribery and treating.

Tuisa filed a counter petition alleging treating and bribery against his rival and both have now agreed to withdraw petitions and head to a by-election.

Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese had previously queried whether the settlement allowed Tuisa to resign and contest again in the by-election.

He said his understanding of the settlement is that if he resigns he will not contest the by-election, but still has the chance to compete in future elections.

Tuisa did not react to questions on whether he was sitting out the by-election.

He held the seat in the XV Parliament but lost it in the 2016 General Elections.

In other news, the FAST Government of Prime Minuster Fiame Naomi Mataafa held a swearing in yesterday for 11 new Associate Ministers.

Prime Minister Fiame said during the ceremony that Associate Ministers were expected to offer support to those leading ministerial portfolios.

The Associate Ministers are selected by their respective Cabinet Ministers.

Fiame reminded her colleagues that the country goes to the polls every five years and it would be good to have the opportunity to get re-elected and have the general knowledge of running the government.
