The cradle of the government shipyard at Satala which derailed two weeks ago is being put back in place.

CEO Carlos Sanchez says if all goes according to schedule the Lady Naomi will be on the slipway by the weekend.

The last time the cradle jumped off the tracks in October 2019, it took nearly two years before another ship could go on the slipway.

The latest derailment happened just before the Lady Naomi was to be pulled up for dry docking.

The Lady Naomi captain and crew have remained in the territory to await repairs of the cradle and will stay on until the dry dock work is completed.

The only other other shipyard close to Samoa is in Fiji, which cannot accept vessels at this time because the country has closed its borders due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

A Tokelau vessel that went to Suva to be dry docked is now stuck there.
