The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) has launched its High-Definition television (HDTV) service which has been in the pipeline for many years.

A press release from the government owned phone company said the television service is in response to the demand of its current sub- scribers, residents, and the needs of businesses.

Initially launched as a trial in Ofu, and Ta’u and certain villages on Tutuila, the ser- vice was first deployed to residents where entertainment consisted solely of radio with some local channels prior to the improvement and deployment of Astca s Fiber Broadband services in 2019.

ASTCA-TV will also be a channel to promote local businesses, events, and alert customers in times of emergencies.

ASTCA is introducing a Triple Play Advantage for customers for savings and convenience. The Triple Play package bundles landline, broadband, and TV services in one for home customers.

It offers 59 channels and up to 50Mbps of Internet speed – an additional option offers up to 139 channels and up to 100Mbps of Internet speed.

Alternatively, ASTCA offers individual packages for customers who prefer a la carte to choose from, beginning with a Starter package of only $19.99, as well as Expanded services and Premium channel packages.

A customer is only required to have landline service to sign up for ASTCA TV.

ASTCA Acting CEO, Chuck Leota stated “ASTCA is extremely excited to launch this service as we continue to introduce new product offerings to our community. Not only does TV provide a gate- way to the outside world with entertainment, information, and educational programs.

“ASTCA-TV will also be used to inform the local community in partnership with KVZK, Homeland Security, NOAA, and the Department of Health.”

ASTCA management and staff acknowledged Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, Chairman Alex Sene Jr., and the ASTCA Board for their support.
