Michelle Duty promoted to Chief Petty Officer

On June 1, 2021, Marine Safety Technician 1st Class Michelle Duty had her advancement ceremony to Chief Petty Officer at the Maliu Mai Beach Resort.

In attendance were her adopted Samoan family and approximately 30 of her friends, colleagues and Director of Marine and Wildlife Resources Archie Soliai.   
 
Chief Petty Officer Duty is a native of Anaheim, CA.

She enlisted in the Coast Guard January 2003. Chief Duty is currently stationed at Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment American Samoa.

Her previous assignments include Lead Petty Officer(LPO) of Waterways Management (WWM) and Incident Management Division (IMD) at Marine Safety Unit Duluth, MN, LPO of Port State Control in Portland, Oregon, International Training Team, Yorktown VA, Independent duty at Marine Safety Detachment Saipan, and USCGC POLAR SEA.
 
She is a victim advocate for the U.S. Coast Guard and a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security/Coast Guard Spectrum LGBTQIA Affinity Group.
