A male traveler in the fourth repatriation group from Honolulu has tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. This was announced by Dept. of Health (DOH) officials on KVZK-TV last night.

According to Dr. Saipale Fuimaono and Dr. Aifili John Tufa who appeared on the television announcement with DOH Deputy Director Vesi Fautanu Jr, the man was another “historical case” like the man who tested positive from the third repatriation flight.

DOH says the he caught the virus in Hawaii in February and fully recovered. He is also fully vaccinated.

According to DOH the man has been isolated per protocols with two family members and will not be released until May 20th.

Additional information received by KHJ News is that the man was previously positive in Hawaii while in quarantine for repatriation flight #3.

He was removed and placed in Isolation. Prior to going in to quarantine for the 4th repatriation flight, he was fully vaccinated.

Following DOH usual protocols, the traveler had three negative tests in Hawaii, 1 test before quarantine, and 2 tests while in quarantine in Hawaii.

All three tests were negative. However, after arriving in the territory he tested positive this past Friday.

DOH has gleaned from the man’s fhistory and vaccination status that he is no longer infectious. He is a historical case, who contracted the virus and recovered from it.

DOH also points out that people who had COVID-19
previously, recovered, and no longer infectious, may continue to test positive for some months afterwards.

DOH encourages residents to get their COVID-19 vaccines as quickly as possible because the chances of the virus making its way to the territory increases with each arriving flight.

Today is release day for the repatriation #4 group members at Fatuoaiga, (pictured here) where the fully vaccinated are being quarantined. The ones at Tradewinds are to be released on Thursday.
