April 30th is the last day to apply for the 2021 President’s Environmental Student and Teacher Awards.
The award recognizes K-12 teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education.
Two teachers from each of the USEPA’s 10 regions will receive a Presidential plaque and an award of up to $2,500 to further professional development in environmental education.
The winning teachers’ local education agencies will also receive the same awards of up to $2,500 to fund environmental educational activities.
Last year, Sabrina Suluai-Mahuka of Samoana High School and of Finafinau Club became the first person in American Samoa to receive the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators (PIAEE).
The President’s Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) Program is also an opportunity to recognize outstanding community-level environmental projects by K-12 youth.
Two winners will also be selected from each region and student projects must be sponsored by an adult over the age of 21.
If the sponsor is not a teacher, the project must have an educator as a co-sponsor. Both awards promote the awareness of natural resources and encourage positive community involvement.
