East side farmers made their mark at the 1st International Farm Fair last week.

With more flat land and more acreage for farming on the west side, the  western side of the island has always been the main suppliers of food for the territory.

But the number of east side farmers who took part in the Fair shows that may be changing.

Candyman and Tisa Faamuli of Alega Valley Market specialize in growing the soa’a known as the king’s bananas.

The couple  grows several varieties of the soa’a, along with lemongrass, papayas, passionfruit and limes.

Candyman who has been farming for 26 years was pleased to be part of the fair and encouraged the Dept of Agriculture to do more.
