Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has appealed to the public not to panic but to be assured that all necessary steps have been taken in handling a confirmed COVID-19 case now in quarantine at the Dept. of Health Alternate Care Facility in Tafuna.

Addressing the territory on KVZK-TV Sunday at noon, Lemanu said a man who arrived with his family on the April 15th repatriation flight from Hawaii tested positive for coronavirus on Friday.

He said the traveler had tested negative for the three COVID-19 tests in Honolulu. However, when he was tested at the Tradewinds Hotel on Friday, he yielded a positive result.

The governor said medical personnel have responded and followed all the necessary protocols for handling a positive case.

Lemanu said that DOH have assessed the case and that they believe that while the man tested positive results for coronavirus, he is not contagious. (See details in our exclusive interview with DOH’s Dr. Aifili John Tafa.)

Lemanu said the public need not be alarmed. The government is following proper procedures in handling this case.

Lemanu’s announcement was aired live from the Dept. of Health offices at the Haleck Professional Building in Ottoville.
