American Samoa celebrates the 121th anniversary of Flag Day A day earlier than the actual day that the US flag was first raised on Sogelau Hill, Fagatogo on April 17, 1900.

The leaders have chosen as the theme for Flag Day 2o21:Triangle of Service: Country, Church, Government… Tafatolu o le Tautua: Atunuu, Ekalesia, Malo.

The official ceremony takes place early tomorrow morning at the Fagatogo Pavilion but without the marchers, entertainment groups and many VIPs.

Because the territory  is still under Covid-19 restrictions the celebration has been scaled down…like last year.

Lt Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale and his wife Marian are to arrive at the malae at 6:30 am followed  by House Speaker Savaii Talavou Ale, Senate  President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean and Chief Justice Michael Kruse.

Governor  Lemanu Peleti Mauga and First Lady Ella are scheduled to arrive at 7:00 am,

It’s a simple Flag Day ceremony according to the program released today by the Governor’s Office.

The new Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs Tauese Vaaomala Sunia is the master of ceremony.

The Petesa Youth Band which has been reactivated under a program by Governor  Lemanu to revive school, church and village bands will have its public debut tomorrow,

It will play the two national anthems while the Dept of Public Safety does the honor of hoisting the flags of the United States and the flag of American Samoa.

The prayer service for tomorrow’s ceremony will be led by Rev Feagaiga  Tautua Fuiava of the EFKS, Sailele.mThe choir from EFKS Nua & Seetag will sing the hymns.

The proclamations for  Flag Day will be read  by high school students. Faailo Tali, Samoana SGA President will read the English version, and Losivale Eliu, Fagaitua High School SGA President reads the Samoan proclamation.

This will be followed by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga’s first Flag Day address,bsince taking  the oath of Governor  on January 3.

The Petesa-Uta Youth Band will play the national hymn Lota Nuu and the ceremony  wraps up with the concluding prayer by Rev Fuiava,

The guests will have breakfast at DDW and will then move to the Veterans Memorial  Stadium for the Family Day and International Farm Fair which opened yesterday pl

This evening at 6 at the stadium the American Samoa Arts Council will open the  Flag Day Performing Arts Festival.
