Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has urged directors to get a move on projects and services for the territory, because as he sees it, the progress is slow.

He said the territory has received unprecedented amounts of federal funding but the directors are not moving fast enough on needed projects.

He said if directors disagree with a project, or thinks it’s inappropriate, unnecessary or even illegal, they should find a way to make it legal and get it done.

Former Governor Lolo Moliga used to say the same during cabinet meetings.

Lemanu was of the opinion  that four months into their administration not much progress was being made because the directors are not being decisive and taking charge.

He said the people want things to change, they are looking for improvements, and it’s up to the cabinet to deliver those expectations.

He said ASG has received a record amount of federal dollars which are not being spent quickly.  Yet the territory has so many unmet needs which this funding should be spent on.

Lemanu did say however that the S8 million allocated for repatriation costs is almost finished.

Each flight cost $2 million and after the first three repatriation flights there’s just $2 million left.

He said Lt  Governor Talauega and the Covid-19 Task Force need to look for additional funding for the repatriation.
