The Chairman of the Board of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority Alex Sene Jr. says the termination of former ASTCA CEO Ms Falavaoto Sualevai is going through the appropriate process.

KHJ News had sent Mr Sene several questions when we learned that the ASTCA board had voted to terminate her employment contract at a meeting on the week of March 22.

A joint statement by ASTCA and the Governor’s Office did not address our questions so we sent Mr Sene more questions, about the termination.

“The termination with a cause is a 30 day process and we are respectfully allowing Ms Fala Sualevai to proceed with the opportunity afforded you Human Resources and Astca employment rules,” said Sene.

We asked if Ms Sualevai is fighting her removal.

The board chairman said, “We have not received any notice from Ms. Sualevai yet.”

We have reported that the ASTCA Board discovered that Sualevai’s current contract which is for five years, was signed by only one member of the former board, former chairman Iulogologo Joseph Pereira.

We have asked the new board Chairman for confirmation that this was the basis for the termination of the former CEO. But he has not commented.

KHJ News understands that two other board approved employment contracts also had only the signature of former chairman Iulogologo.

These are the contract for ASTCA Legal Counsel William Ledoux and Chief Technical Officer Faasala Augafa

We asked Sene if these two contracts would also be terminated

He said the action on Ms Sualevai is the only one taken by the board, along with the assignment of an Acting CEO.

Chuck Leota has been appointed as Acting CEO of ASTCA.
