Food, laundry, head doctor complaints

There’s been no response from the COVID-19 Task Force regarding questions regarding the quality of food being served to the second group of repatriated residents now in quarantine in Honolulu.

Wednesday’s breakfast was the third time since the group went into quarantine on February 25th that there have been complaints that some of the meals were not properly cooked.

The first was meatloaf served last Thursday which was served partially raw. Officials responded quickly, though. Hawaiian mixed plates were ordered from a local restaurant to replace the uncooked meatloaf.

Sunday’s dinner of rice and salmon was also reported to have the same issue. The salmon was not properly cooked and some of the travelers posted about the uncooked fish on Facebook.

Yesterday’s breakfast of loco moco also attracted complaints. The hamburger was described as raw.

Unlike the first repatriation group that had all their meals prepared at the quarantine site the White Sands Hotel, ASG is reported to be using a private caterer this time around. The 195 passengers are staying at the Ohana Waikiki East by Outrigger.

There have also been complaints about the lack of laundry services for the group. Each of the travelers was given a bucket with a ziplock bag of detergent to use for their laundry. They pointed out that there was no place to hang and dry if they washed.

Earlier this week it was announced on the daily Zoom session that laundry service will be provided. There’ll be 1 laundry bag per room yesterday and next Monday.

Other observations reported from the group relates to the Dept of Health lead official in Honolulu Dr Monita Adip who has been described as impolite in the way she treats travelers as well as the Hawaii team members.

KHJ News sent questions to the Chair of the Covid 19 Task Force Lt Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale but we have not yet received a response.
