Intruder dropped shirt in living room

A 19 year old who’s accused of breaking into a home in Pava’ia’i and then managed to get sway when the occupants woke up and saw him, was caught when he dropped his shirt in the family’s living room.

He now faces multiple charges in District Court.

Avia Eti is charged with first degree burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, trespassing,. and underage consumption of alcohol.

A woman called the Tafuna substation this past Sunday to report that a male intruder had broke into their home.  When officers arrived, the woman showed them a torn screen wire in her daughter’s room.  She said the intruder fled the scene and dropped a polo shirt inside their living room.

The intruder was later identified as the defendant Eti.

According to the mother the defendant had crawled next to her daughter who was sleeping on the floor.

The mother said got up and screamed and ran towards him. But he ran off and jumped out the window.

She saw the intruder run off with unknown individuals toward the woods.

The daughter told police that she was in her room the night before and heard someone tapping on her window. She then decided to sleep in the living room with her mom.  A few minutes later the defendant started messaging and calling her on messenger. He was asking where she was and said he wanted to see her. She then blocked him on Facebook because she felt uncomfortable.

The mother and daughter visited the defendant’s home which is close to theirs and confronted Eti about the break-in.  After the woman repeatedly asked Eti if he had broken into their house, he finally admitted that he had.  He also admitted that the polo shirt was is.

Eti is being held on bail of $10,000.
