Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga’s choice for Director  of Public Works , Faleosina Faiai Voigt, was rejected by the House of Representatives this morning.

She needed 11 votes to pass confirmation but only received 9 yes votes while 7 representatives voted against her.

After the vote, Representative Faimealelei Anthony Allen moved for reconsideration and the motion was approved by a majority show of hands.

It’s up to the House Speaker when another vote will be held.

Faimealelei in his motion noted that Faiai Voigt was a “daughter” of Speaker and Elder Deacon Savali Talavou Ale and out of respect of their relationship with the speaker, it’s his opinion they should review her nomination again.

The confirmation hearing for the Acting Director of Public Works in the House of Representatives was held yesterday.

However KHJ News was not present as we were attending the press conference by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and the Covid-19 Task Force regarding the first repatriation flight on January 29.

Voigt was Director of Public Works  for 8 years of the Lolo Lemanu Administration.
