American Samoa joins a nationwide memorial, organized by the Presidential Inauguration Committee to honor all the lives claimed by COVID 19.

Today cities and states across the nation will unite in a moment of remembrance and respect for the 385,000 American lives lost due to the deadly pandemic.

Memorial participants will be illuminating buildings, lighting candles, and ringing church bells in a show of solidarity.

Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga said in a memorandum issued Friday,“In support of our succeeding Commander in Chief, LT Governor Talauega and I invite members of the business community, and the various Departments, agencies and offices of the American Samoa Government to do the same within their offices as the United States Flag will be flown at half-staff on January 19, 2021.

The Office of Samoan Affairs will coordinate with pulenu’u of villages to ring village church bells for 30 seconds beginning at 11:30 am.

At that exact moment, the American Samoa Government will participate in a moment of silence while the bells are being rung.

Lemanu said, “As we reflect upon this pandemic consider the loss of life and the impact on the affected survivors.

“Let us each take a moment to give thanks to our God for his continued blessings upon our Territory.”
