There’s no school today at Pava’ia’i Elementary School after a small fire broke out early this morning in one of the classrooms.
Eye witnesses said a classroom for the Level 6 building caught fire around 6:30 am and students who had arrived early for the day were quickly evacuated to higher grounds.
Crews from the American Samoa Power Authority, Public Safety and Fire Division responded quickly and the blaze was extinguished.
There were holes in the ceiling of the classroom where the fire occurred but there were no other damages.
It’s suspected the faulty wiring caused the fire.
School was called off for the day while repairs are being carried out so that classes can resume in Tuesday.
