The Republican Party of American Samoa is speaking up in the wake of the violence in Washongton D.C. last week.

In a news release, Chairman of the RPAS Taulapapa William Sword addressed citizens, friends and family condemning those that “desecrated our capitol.”

Sword reiterated the widespread call by Republicans nationwide to “remain peaceful in the weeks and months ahead.”

He said, “The people who desecrated our capitol are not Republican or Trump’s supporters. Those who partook in the assault on our nation’s Capitol and those who continue to threaten violence should be found, held accountable, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Let us be clear: Anyone who has malicious intent is not welcome in Washington, D.C., our territory, or in any other State Capitol Building. This should include all those who caused pandemonium and desecrated our monuments in the past year.

“At this particular time, it is important to note that the peaceful transition of power is one of our nation’s founding principles and is necessary for our country to move forward — as one Nation under God. Now is the time to come together as one people, united in the peaceful pursuit of our common democratic purpose. Our Founding Fathers established a Nation of laws, not a Nation of anarchy.”

Sword stated, “The hateful violence we witnessed last weekis evil and is so NOT part of our national fabric.”

The inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States of America will happen on the steps of the US Capitol building Wednesday, January 20th.
