Acting Commissioner of Public Safety, Fo’ifua Fo’ifua Jr, says the investigation of property which cannot be accounted for at the Department of Agriculture, is being handled by the Tafuna substation at this stage.

He said a decision on whether the probe will be turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division will depend on the findings of the officers that were assigned to the case.

Acting Director of Agriculture, Solialealofiotagaloa Iosua Mutini, confirmed to KHJ News he had requested a police investigation of DOA.

Last week police officers visited the DOA in Tafuna.

The acting commissioner said that while departments are carrying out inventories of their assets, if some are missing, police will be asked if their assistance is required.

KHJ News asked about allegations that the ownership of some department vehicles had been transferred to a construction company. Fo’ifua said he cannot comment until all of the information can be verified.

Communications Officer in the Governor’s Office, Fiafia Sunia, said each department has been tasked by the governor to conduct a full departmental inventory of equipment, vehicles, and materials within 30 days.

“Should that durector find it necessary to initiate an internal investigation on any issues they feel are a violation of legal procedures, that is in their purview.” said Sunia.

He said Governor Lemanu has stated, “I expect all Appointees to lead with integrity, transparency, accountability.”
