The Department of Parks and Recreation is the go to department if you want to reserve the Fale Tele or Guesthouse or the smaller fales at the Afioga Tufele Li’amatua Sr. Tufele Cultural Center at Utulei.
Director Ken Tupua says anyone can use the smaller fales to have lunch or just relax and there’s no charge.
But for planned events like birthdays, parties and the like, you have to book at Parks and Recreation.
For events with 50 people the fee is $50. For events with 51 or more the fee is $100. Add in $15 for water, $25 for electricity and a cleaning fee of $25.
After the event, Parks and Rec will inspect the park and if everything has been cleaned and the garbage has been cleared, the $25 cleaning fee will be reimbursed.
The fee for hiring the Guesthouse is $500.
New bathroom facilities have been constructed to the side of the guesthouse however that will be reserved for special events.
The existing bathrooms at the beach are for the general public’s use.
The Afioga Tufele Li’amatua Cultural Center which was opened on Saturday includes the extended Guesthouse, an extension to the Don’t Drink the Water Restaurant, seawall and eight Samoan fale. Each of the fale was built by a different company and the add on to the Guesthouse was started by Public Works and continued by P&J Construction.
