In the FY2021 budget which was never enacted into law, $100,000 was allocated for transition costs which would include the inauguration of the new leaders.
Information from government sources indicate that $50,000 has already been used by the current administration for costs related to the transition.
The balance is being left for the incoming leaders to use for their inauguration and also cover costs related to the transition,
The Lolo Lemanu Administration transition report was officially transmitted to Governor-elect Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Lt Governor Talauega Administration last week, according to Governor Lolo’s Executive Assistant Iulogologo Joseph Pereira.
It’s unlikely that there will be any off island guests attending the inauguration on January 3, a Sunday, as the borders would still be closed.
Iulogologo, who also chairs the Coronavirus Task Force said, “Our 11th Declaration suspended all HAL flights for the month of December.”
He revealed that a medical charter which was planned for December has been pushed back as well “with the advent of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and possible vaccination of returning residents as a prerequisite for repatriation. ”
Iulogologo reiterated, “Our borders are still closed which has preempted flights bringing passengers into the territory. ”
Asked if Mrs Ella Mauga, wife of Governor-elect Lemanu will be here for the inauguration, Iulogologo said he has no information on this issue.
