A 27 year-old man is in police custody facing charges of rape and sodomy as well as unlawful possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Samoa News reports that the rape and sodomy charges against Minute Fiu relate to an alleged sexual relationship he had with a 16 year-old girl between December 2019 and August 2020.
The drugs charges relate to a glass pipe containing methamphetamine Fiu had on himself, including rolled marijuana cigarettes, when police searched him upon his arrest on the sex charges.
A police investigation was launched after a mother asked them to speak to her daughter about sneaking out at night from her aunts home at Malaeloa.
The girl admitted she and Fiu, who is from Taputimu, had been seeing each other and had consensual sex.
It took police more than two months before they caught up with Fiu who admitted to the relationship with the girl.
During the interrogation of Fiu he made it clear to investigators that the relationship was consensual.
The girl also told officers that she supplied drugs for her and Fiu and she gave officers the name of her supplier.
The court has ordered Fiu to be kept in custody without bail until his next hearing because of the seriousness of the charges against him.
