The Samoa Government has again urged families living overseas not to let their elderly parents travel to Samoa on repatriation flights on their own.

Chairman of the National Emergency Operations Committee, Agafili Shem Leo, said during a press conference this morning that elderly parents travelling alone and in need of special care is a constant cause for concern with the committee.

‘’It’s heart wrenching seeing these parents trying to fend for themselves upon arrival and while in quarantine,’’ he said.

He again urged children of these parents to try and keep them in their care until such a time when borders are opened again.

‘’If they still want to come home, then you must look at someone travelling with your parents to give them a hand during their travels and in quarantine,’’ he added.

Samoa is currently on preparedness Level Yellow following the two positive tests two weeks ago which have now been identified as being historical and no longer infectious.

Meanwhile, all 274 passengers who had their quarantine period extended when two of them tested positive, have been released and allowed to go home.

Only the young sailor and a 70 year old man, who have both been declared as historical cases remain in quarantine for a further 4 day period and are being tested and monitored.

‘’We expect to release them as soon as their final tests are done,’’ said Leausa.

The last repatriation flight for 2020 will arrive tomorrow from Fiji carrying returning students and missionaries.
