A fire broke out behind the Iakina Seventh Day Adventist Academy in Iliili around 8:45 this morning.

Black smoke was seen billowing into the sky from a pig farm owned by the Misa family adjacent to the school.

A teacher said before they realized there was a fire next door, closest to the high school, they were startled by loud noise from the pigs.

Students of Iakina were let out of class and they gathered in front of the SDA church.

Witnesses said police units and an ambulance arrived shortly after the fire broke out out but it took awhile before the fire truck arrived.

By then the blaze was almost put out.

A female at the scene said she saw employees of a construction company…grabbing size two pigs and throwing them into a truck.

Iakina SDA Academy issued a notice saying due to the close proximity of the fire to the fire they’ve decided to call off classes for thoday and tomorrow.

“Assessment needs to be done to make sure there is no water contamination or any electrical fault that may affect students’ safety,” said the notice.”

Iakina will reopen on Thursday.
