Members of the public have been asking about the fales being built at Fagaalu Park.

Their concern is that the fales are taking up space and reducing the size of the playing field for cricket games and other sports events at the park.

When KHJ News asked Director of Parks and Recreation Ken Tupua about the fales he reminded that Fagaalu is a park, not a sports field.

He explained that the new fales going up at Fagaalu are for recreational purposes just like the fales at Suigaula in Utulei.

“They are for people who come to the park for an outing to use,” said Tupua.

Seven fales will be built along with a new bathroom.

Tupua said this project is funded under the Governor’s Special programs, and questions about the cost and the contractors involved should be directed to the Governor’s Office.

Sesilia Time, who is an administrator of the Special Programs at the Governor’s Office was out for meetings when we contacted her for information,

KHJ News asked the Parks and Recreation Director where cricket competitions would be held and we pointed out that the cricket games are mostly sponsored by the government.

He said everyone who wants to use the park for their sports activities can request through Parks and Recreation.

He said perhaps the cricket games can be held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium using a portable cricket pitch like how it’s done in countries that play English cricket.
