The container ship Fesco Askold remains out at sea waiting for a decision from ASG on when it can return to port to off load its cargo and be on its way back to California.

This afternoon the Department of Health and Port Administration met with the local representative of Hamburg Sud, owners of the vessel, to discuss how to move forward with off loading the Fesco Askold’s cargo.

“We are developing mitigation strategies to safely unload the ship’s cargo before it heads out”, said Dr Aifili John Tufa who attended the meeting.

While the initial plan was to have the vessel wait out at sea for 7 days that may change.

It may come into port sooner to off load, load up containers for the back haul trip to the US west coast and be out of local waters as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile the 11 people in quarantine at the DOH Quarantine Center in Tafuna are all well and there’s no signs of illness.

They will be tested for coronavirus on Friday.

The three infected crew members of the Fesco Askold have been isolated in their cabins and are not showing any symptoms of coronavirus.
