Yet another case where a traffic stop leads to drug charges.

Filipo Faafetai has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, in connection with an incident on the night of October 24 on the Nuuuli highway.

According to court filings, two patrol officers saw a west bound vehicle driving recklessly and gave chase to the speeding car.

The driver, identified as the defendant, turned into the parking lot of a store in Nuuuli and the officers followed.

They saw that Faafetai was on the ground acting as if he was trying to repair is vehicle.

He was asked to produce his drivers license but replied that he didn’t have it with him.

The defendant’s name was not on the drivers license system of DPS when it was checked at police headquarter.

At that point police informed Faafetai his vehicle would be impounded because he was driving it without a driver’s license.

The defendant argued with officers that he had a license and while he was telling police this he walked to the passenger side of the vehicle and grabbed a cellphone and pair of sunglasses.

It’s alleged that he reached into his pocket and tossed something away.

That item was a glass pipe commonly used to smoke crystal methamphetamine.

Crystalline substance in the pipe tested positive for meth.

When later questioned about the pipe by the Vice and Narcotics Division, the defendant confessed that the pipe was his and he had bought a straw of ice for $50 for his own use from an unidentified man in the area called Le Filifili.

Faafetai is being held on bail fo $5,000.
