What was the reason for the late counting of ballots at the Nu’uuli polling place?

Deputy Chief Election Officer Fiti Tavai responding to KHJ News questions via email yesterday said according to the supervisor/poll worker in Nu’uuli during the counting of ballots, there were too many void ballots and questions raised by poll watchers delaying the counting.

According to the list of registered voters provided by the Election Office, Nu’uuli/Malaeimi had 1,599 voters which was the highest at any single polling place.

Nu’uuli was one of three polling places in Ituau District

The counting finished around 12:45 Wednesday morning then relayed to the Election Office from where the results, the last one to be announced, were aired on KVZK-TV after 1 am.

The polling place with the next highest number of registered voters was Leone with 1,200 and the third highest was the polling place at Tafuna, one of six for Tuala-uta District, with 1,144 registered voters.
