Candidate for Congress Dr Oreta Tufaga Mapu Crichton believes it’s time for American Samoa to have a Department of Labor.

She shared that thought during the Chamber of Commerces’ Congressional Forum last night at Baptist Wayland University.

The question was, “Every other state and territory has a Department of Labor that provides important workforce development training. American Samoa lacks this department. As such there is a deficiency in quality training services available to our labor force. What is your plan as congresswoman to fill this workforce development training gap through alternative federal sources?”

The first to answer was Meleagi Suitonu Chapman who participated via VTC as she’s among the 500 local residents stranded off island due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However she talked mainly about schools and training for teachers and didn’t answer the question.

This was Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s response.
