There have been claims of preferential treatment by the Coronavirus Task Force regarding the approval of specialized and professional employees being allowed to enter the territory during the pandemic lockdown.
KHJ News has learned that two technical/specialized personnel contracted by Paramount Builders were approved to travel from Auckland, New Zealand on the medical flight last week. However a McConnell Dowell engineer and his wife were denied, on the same flight.
KHJ News asked the Chairman of the Coronavirus Task Force Iulogologo Joseph Pereira for the rationale behind approving the Paramount Builders personnel.
He said Paramount is bringing in critical technical employees essential for the forward progress of the Fono Building which is slowed because of COVID-19 issues.
As for the McConnell Dowell employee and his wife, Iulogologo said they are ‘deemed non essential given the nature of the employee’s responsibilities.
KHJ News understands that the employee was the new Country Manager for the construction company.
