The Samoan Studies Institute of the American Samoa Community College is sponsoring its 6th Annual Lau Gagana Samoa writing contest.

The entries for this year’s competition will feature fagogo, or story telling, but contemporary, rather than the old traditional fagogo.

To encourage more writers and to address the famine in Samoan language material, the Institute will offer 10 consolation prizes in addition to the first, second and third place prizes. Winning entries are published.

Tupa’isiva Tamari Mulitalo Cheung coordinator explains the concept of fagogo.
