The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa will convene an emergency General Conference next week to allow the church to approve the annual budget for the next financial year, amongst other matters.

Samoa Observer reports General Secretary Rev Vavatau Taufao confirmed the two day conference October 15-16 but a venue is still to be confirmed.

Rev Taufao dismissed rumors that the church would be chartering a plane to bring participants from around the world.

He added that 14 members from each of the six main standing committees will attend.

“Under the Church’s constitution, an emergency meeting can be called, if there are issues that need to be addressed urgently. And looking at the time and moment we are in right now, we are living through uncertainty and times of emergency as we continue to face the global pandemic that is affecting the world’’.

He said that the Fono Tele or Annual General Conference was cancelled this year because of the effects of COVID-19 restrictions but there are still some work still in progress that require approval from the Fono Tele.

“We have so many outstanding works and reports that need approval.’’

Reverend Taufao said apart from the standing committees representatives, ten representatives will also be drawn from the Mafutaga Aoao a Tina, and six more from the Au Leoleo and Au Taumafai Committees bringing the total participants to a hundred.

The six standing committees include the Elders Committee, Finance Committee, Developments Committee, Missionaries Committee, Education Committee and the General Purposes Committee.
