Support for Government’s Stance on Repatriation

Lt Governor candidate Talauega Eleasalo Ale answered on behalf of the Lemanu/Talauega team saying that this was an emotional issue for Lemanu as his wife Ella is one of the people who cannot come home because our government says she cannot because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Talauega said only the candidates know that running for the offices of governor and lt governor without one’s spouse can be lonely,

Talauega added that he’s also thankful to God that out of the hundreds of countries American Samoa is one of the 12 that is COVID free.

He said yes we hoped there weren’t any restrictions like having to close businesses at 9 o’clock, but this is the new reality. He said instead of complaining we should be thanking God that this illness that has killed 200,000 Americans and millions around the world has not killed a single person in American Samoa.

He said if there is a way that we can repatriate our people stranded off island in a safe way then yes but right now the situation is not safe and we should be supportive of the government’s efforts.

The Iaulualo and Tapaau team also expressed support for the administration’s efforts to keep American Samoa safe from coronavirus.

Iaulualo Faafetai Talia said this is not an easy decision for the government but as leaders their main concern is the safety and welfare of the territory.
