Drowning Victims Were Hard Working Men

amouli

The two men who drowned while fishing in Amouli Monday evening have been described by colleagues as good hardworking men.

No official information about how Junior Toleafoa of Amouli and Alofa John Togia of Aoa drowned has been released.

But village sources say that the two were last seen casting their net close to shore while it was still daylight Monday evening.

One resident said that on Monday evening the reef was almost entirely exposed during low tide and it was a shock to learn that the two men had drowned.

Both men were fathers with young children.

Junior Toleafoa was employed at the Took Shop as a yard worker helping with loading orders onto trucks, carpentry and other jobs. One of the supervisors said he was a good person and hard worker.

Alofa John Togia of Aoa used to work at Hope Dialysis. A manager said he was a very good worker and a very good man. He was living by himself in the village.

The Marine Patrol Unit responded to a call Monday evening to search for the two men. Villagers had retrieved one body but it took a little longer to search for and retrieve the second body.

Both men were in their early 40s.

Our condolences to their families for their loss.
