A veteran who traveled from Apia on the return flight of the Samoa Airlines plane that went for maintenance last week was admitted to the LBJ Hospital upon arrival in the territory.

According to Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua the veterans home of record is California but he had been visiting Samoa when lights were suspended.

The couple was given COVID-19 tests and were negative.

Motusa said the veteran needed treatment that is not available at the hospital in Samoa but he wasn’t sure if he will be taken off island. His wife is with him at the hospital to help take care of him.

KHJ News understands that the Department of Homeland Security is making inquiries regarding the coronavirus protocols which were followed for the veteran and his spouse.

Motusa said the couple would be quarantined after the veteran is discharged from LBJ Hospital.
