A question from the American Samoa Bar Association Gubernatorial Forum last Thursday night: American Samoa has a serious shortage of qualified and trained local professionals. If elected how would your administration overcome the continuous shortage of local qualified professionals and reduce the need to hire from off island.
Responding on behalf of the Iaulualo/Tapaau team, candidate for Lt Governor Tapaau Daniel Mageo Aga said that if the territory gets professionals and specialities from off island who are willing to come to American Samoa, “we should welcome and thank them.”
He said there are certain fields in which local capacity building can be from the ground up but for some specialist areas off island education and training of locals is needed.
